Baby Gaston Mini-Update 1 - No Baby, No Power

Hello to all,

Thank you everyone for your concern. I'm sorry I couldn't get an update out to you sooner, but we lost power around 7:30 PM Thursday night thanks to Hurricane Ivan. It was not restored until sometime Saturday afternoon. We spent Thursday night here, expecting power to be restored any minute. After a miserable night, my baby appointment (I'll get to that momentarily), and the house heating up to 80+ degrees by early afternoon on Friday, we'd had enough. I want to send out an extra-special thank you to my maternal grandmother. Even though she wasn't going to be home all weekend, she let us go to her house so that we had a comfortable place to sleep and a refrigerator/freezer to try and salvage as much food as possible. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Este Mom! We are home now, air conditioner running, food returned to the re-cooled frige, and three kitties happy their peoples are home. Certainly not the most fun I've ever had, I must say, but I know that I'd *much* rather do it at 9+ months pregnant than with a newborn!!!

Speaking of which, my Friday appointment went really well. All of my indicators were rechecked, and each was lower than it had been on Wednesday. Yay! My blood pressure was 120/80 (down from 140/80), I had lost 4 pounds (given that I had "gained" 8 lbs (mostly fluid) in only 6 days, this was a very good thing), and my urine only showed "trace" amounts of protein (down from +1). So, I was sent home with instructions to "take it easy," permission to go to my grandmother's (which, though about 45 minutes away, my doctor said was much better than being hot and stressed with no power), and I will be reassessed on Tuesday. I have another test that was done on Friday that is supposed to be more conclusive, so we should have those results Tuesday as well. Again, if they can keep me at or below the danger line, then they'll let me stay as is, at least until closer to my due date (reminder, due date was changed to October 2 based on ultrasound readings, but no one told me until Wednesday, wasn't that nice of them? LOL).

I'm still betting they will want to induce as close to my due date as possible (unless things drastically improve, which is unlikely), but I am also hoping to push them off as long as possible, so I'm guessing we'll have a baby around September 29 or 30. We'll see. According to the new due date, I will technically be "full term" (i.e. 38 weeks) tomorrow (Sunday), so things should be just fine no matter when it happens.

I'll be sure and keep you updated. I'm trying to strike a balance between inundating you with emails and letting you know what's going on. Unless we get some bad news on Tuesday, if you don't hear from me, then assume that all is well and I was sent home. They will probably want to see me again Thursday or Friday to recheck me. Again, if you don't hear otherwise, assume everything is fine. So, if they don't decide to induce me in the coming week, you probably won't hear from me again until Sept 27 or later. By then, we should know a little more about what's going on. Either that, or we'll be parents. EEK!! LOL And rest assured if they do decide to induce, I'll let you know, and Jacob will send out an email for me when Baby G finally makes his grand debut. Until then, just be thinking of us.

Love, Erin and Steve and Baby G
